Science Tuition in South Wales

Would your child benefit from extra help with Science subjects?

Help your Child have Confidence in their Science Skills
Our focus is to provide high quality science tuition for children of all ages and all abilities. If you are concerned about your child’s ability to do well in exams, or you are worried that they are being left behind during classes in school, we can help them catch up and improve their science knowledge.

All of the work we teach in our learning centre is specific to the Welsh curriculum and taught by qualified and DBS checked teachers. We have created an environment that nurtures and encourages, while ensuring your child receives the individual attention and teaching they need to succeed.

Join a community of tutors, parents and learners who value education, and want to give our children the best chance of a bright future.

Science forms a large section of the key curriculum for both primary and secondary school students in Wales. Notoriously one of the ‘harder’ aspects of the curriculum, science often requires subject specific knowledge that can make it difficult for parents and guardians to support children who are struggling with individual concepts and topics.

Our qualified and experienced science teachers are experts in teaching basic science to younger children, as well as the 3 core sciences taught in secondary schools: physics, chemistry and biology. If your child needs more time to grasp the basics, a nudge to reach that all important C grade, or a extra push to receive an A*, let us give them the support, attention and additional teaching they need to achieve their full potential.

All of our tutors are caring and encouraging, enabling us to provide not only exceptional tutoring, but also a friendly and welcoming environment for your children to develop their understanding of science and improve their confidence in the classroom and in exams.

Personalised Science Tuition

When your child begins tuition with us, we’ll carry out a short assessment that will help us to determine which subject areas they are struggling to understand. Whether they are having problems with science in general, or one specific area of the 3 core sciences, we will create an individual learning plan that focuses on the topics and themes they find difficult.

During each tutor session, your child will work in a small group of up to a maximum of 4 children, but each child will only ever work on their own unique learning plan. Every science lesson is 1 hour long and can be arranged straight after school, during the evenings on weekdays, and on Saturdays. School holidays are the perfect time to fit in some extra sessions if they are needed.

Your child will have the same tutor for every session. Consistency will enable your child to build a rapport with their tutor and help them to feel comfortable during their sessions.

Physics, Chemistry and Biology Tuition

Secondary school students learn science as 3 separate subjects: physics, chemistry and biology. We can help give your child tuition with all, two or just one of the subjects they are struggling to understand. Some children will find science as a whole difficult to understand, whereas others may enjoy biology, but find chemical reactions difficult to comprehend - or vice versa. We’ll work with your child to understand their weak areas, and form a learning plan to suit their needs.

Double and Triple Science Help for GCSE Students

GCSE students will choose to study for their double or triple science award. We can tutor students studying for the double science examinations, or for 3 separate GSCEs in physics, chemistry and biology. As well as helping students with syllabus specific work, we can help with exam revision and preparation techniques that will give your child the tools they need to sit their examinations with confidence.

Physics, Chemistry and Biology Tuition for A Level Students

Our tutors can teach physics, chemistry and biology at both AS and A Level standards. The focus for students will be on practise papers, and ensuring that your children not only understand the topics included in the examinations, but that they also have the tools to revise and prepare for their exams.

Science Experiments and Practicals

As well as topic specific guidance, our tutors are also able to revisit experiments carried out at school, and discuss the logic behind predictions and results. In certain circumstances we may be able to replicate an experiment, but generally, our tutors will focus on ensuring your children understand how the outcome of an experiment was reached, and how it relates to the relevant topic studied.

The New Welsh Curriculum

All of our tutors are qualified and DBS checked teachers who stay up to date with the curriculum for Wales guidance, so you can be confident in knowing that any tutoring your child receives with us will be entirely in-line with the learning they do at school.

Feedback and Updates with Parents and Guardians

As a parent or guardian, you will have regular contact with your child’s tutor about your child’s progress. We know it can feel frustrating when you can see your child is struggling in school, but you’re unable to give them the help they need. That’s why all of our tutors will provide informal feedback at the end of every tutor session.

In order to monitor their progress, your child will also be assessed every 3 months and you will be emailed a copy of their report.

Usually, homework will be given at the end of each session, but if you don’t want your child to receive any work on top of their homework from school, please just let us know. For examination students, homework will generally focus on past papers and exam skills.

General Science Tuition for Primary School Children

For children aged between 5 and 11, ‘science’ is a broad subject that covers the basics of physics, chemistry, and biology, with little differentiation between the 3 subjects. Children are given an introduction to science that will prepare them to study the sciences in isolation at secondary school.

We make science fun for our little learners, and focus on improving their confidence and encouraging enjoyment of science. Younger children will also have the opportunity to be awarded our Star of the Week, as a recognition of their hard work. We celebrate success at every level, and emphasise progress above all else.
